Jeremiah Webb Patriots Release: WR Waived From Injured Reserve
The New England Patriots waived wide receiver Jeremiah Webb from injured reserve on Tuesday, October 20, ending the 25-year-old's second season with the team before it ever began. Webb had been on injured reserve since July with an arm injury and never played in 2026. The move came two days before Thursday's game at the Chicago Bears.
The Jeremiah Webb Patriots release ends a 2026 run that never began
The Jeremiah Webb Patriots release was listed on Tuesday's NFL transaction wire, and Pats Pulpit reported it gives Webb the chance to catch on elsewhere in 2026. Heavy also reported the move, citing Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald.
Webb's season ended almost as soon as it started. The Patriots placed him on injured reserve just two practices into training camp, on July 26. His arm injury kept him out all season, so New England never saw him compete among the Patriots wide receivers 2026 group.
Webb showed enough in the 2025 preseason to keep coming back to New England
Jeremiah Webb joined the Patriots as an undrafted free agent in May 2025 out of South Alabama. The 5-foot-11, 198-pound receiver caught six passes for 80 yards and a touchdown in his rookie preseason, plus a 59-yard kickoff return.
New England waived Webb at the 2025 roster deadline, then brought him back on the practice squad. That Jeremiah Webb Patriots practice squad stint lasted the full season, included an inactive elevation for the AFC wild-card game, and led to a reserve/futures contract in February 2026. Before the NFL, Webb starred in the 2024 Salute to Veterans Bowl, catching six passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns against Western Michigan to earn MVP honors.

Why does the Patriots receiver room keep changing before the Bears game?
Webb's exit is the second receiver move in two days. On Monday, New England placed Romeo Doubs on injured reserve with the shoulder injury suffered on his 42-yard touchdown catch in Sunday's 26-19 win over the New York Jets. Per Heavy, New England also signed Ryan Miller to the practice squad.
A.J. Brown returned against the Jets after missing four games with a high-ankle sprain, catching three passes for 27 yards on 10 targets. With Doubs out at least four games, the Patriots will lean on Brown, DeMario Douglas, and their remaining healthy receivers to support quarterback Drake Maye at Soldier Field. Webb's release does not change that rotation, because he has been unavailable since training camp.
What is next for Jeremiah Webb and for the Patriots at Soldier Field?
Webb now goes through the league's claiming period while he works back from his arm injury. If he clears waivers, the former South Alabama standout can sign elsewhere once healthy. At 25, with preseason production and return ability on his 2025 tape, his next chance likely comes as a depth receiver and special teams option.
The Patriots turn straight to Thursday night. New England (4-2) visits the Chicago Bears (4-2) at Soldier Field on October 22, with kickoff at 8:15 p.m. ET. New England has won three straight.
Questions fans are asking about the Jeremiah Webb move
Why did the Patriots waive Jeremiah Webb now?
Webb had been on injured reserve since July 26 and had not played in 2026, so the waiver lets him seek a new team instead of finishing the season on New England's injured reserve list.
Can another NFL team claim Jeremiah Webb?
Yes. Webb is subject to the league's claiming period after being waived from injured reserve, per Pats Pulpit. If no team claims him, he can sign elsewhere once healthy.
Does the Jeremiah Webb release change the Patriots lineup against the Bears?
No. Webb has been unavailable since July, so the lineup is unchanged. The change that matters is Romeo Doubs going on injured reserve, pushing more work to A.J. Brown and DeMario Douglas.
