Bruins Chase Fifth Straight Win Tonight Against Winless Kings
The Boston Bruins are red hot, and they get another late night in Los Angeles tonight with a chance to make it five straight wins. The Bruins (6-2-0) visit the Los Angeles Kings (0-3-2) at Crypto.com Arena with puck drop set for 9 p.m. ET on NESN.
Boston is riding a four-game winning streak after Friday night's 4-2 comeback over the Anaheim Ducks, where the Bruins trailed 2-0 before scoring four unanswered goals. Tonight is the third stop on a four-game road trip, and the Bruins have won both games so far on the trip.
Swayman Returns to the Crease
Jeremy Swayman is expected to start in net after Michael DiPietro earned his first NHL win on Friday in Anaheim, per NHL.com. Swayman has been excellent to open the season, going 5-1-0 with a 1.99 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage.
Offensively, Boston keeps rolling through captain David Pastrnak. His third goal of the season Friday gave him 423 for his career, passing Brad Marchand for fourth on the Bruins' all-time goals list. Pastrnak leads the team with 10 points, while rookie Fraser Minten leads the club with four goals after scoring twice Tuesday in San Jose.
One question mark: Pavel Zacha's status is unclear after he took a hit from Ducks defenseman Drew Helleson late in the third period Friday and did not return, per NHL.com. Boston otherwise lists no injuries, with Jonathan Aspirot, Sean Kuraly and Connor Clifton expected to be scratched.
Kings Still Searching for First Win
Los Angeles is desperate for anything positive under new head coach Peter Laviolette. The Kings are winless through five games (0-3-2) and have managed just three goals over their last three games, per Boston Hockey Now. Their penalty kill is the worst in the league, killing just 11 of 19 penalties, and that is a dangerous matchup against a Bruins power play that went 3-for-4 on Friday night.
Artemi Panarin leads the Kings with four points, including a team-high three goals. Los Angeles is missing Mats Zuccarello and Alex Turcotte with undisclosed injuries, while Kevin Fiala is out following leg surgery, per NHL.com. Darcy Kuemper is projected to start for the Kings.
What to Watch Tonight
This one has a personal storyline for Boston's bench. Head coach Marco Sturm spent seven years in the Kings organization, including three seasons as head coach of the AHL's Ontario Reign from 2022 to 2025. Six players in the Kings' expected lineup played for Sturm in Ontario.
Bruins forward Tanner Jeannot is also facing one of his former teams with an "A" on his sweater. Sturm praised Jeannot earlier this month, saying the first thing out of Los Angeles after Jeannot left was that they missed him in physical areas.
Boston swept the season series last year, including a 2-1 overtime win at Crypto.com Arena. A win tonight would give the Bruins five in a row and a perfect mark on this California swing before the trip finale.
