Editorial Policy
Boston Sport News is an independent news outlet covering Boston sports: the Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins, Patriots, and New England Revolution. This page explains how we choose, report, and publish our stories.
How We Choose Stories
We cover the stories Boston fans are talking about: games, injuries, roster moves, trades, and the business of the teams. Our daily coverage follows the teams' schedules and the news cycle, and every story must clear the same bar: it has to be current, verifiable, and worth a fan's time.
Our Sourcing Standards
Stories are built from official team and league sources (MLB, NBA, NHL, NFL, and MLS), team announcements, press conferences, and established sports outlets such as ESPN, the Associated Press, The Boston Globe, The Athletic, and NESN. Major claims are checked against at least one additional source before publication. Every article lists its sources at the bottom of the page.
Rumors and Reports
Trade talk and unconfirmed reports are part of sports coverage, but they are labeled as what they are. When a story rests on reporting we have not independently confirmed, the article says so plainly, with wording such as "per reports," and names the outlet behind it. We never present a rumor as a confirmed fact.
Review Before Publication
Every story is reviewed and fact-checked by our publishing manager before it goes live. Names, scores, dates, statistics, and injury details are checked against the source material during that review. If a detail cannot be verified, it does not run.
News and Opinion
News stories report what happened and what it means, in that order. Analysis is clearly framed as analysis, and headlines must reflect what the article actually says. We do not use misleading headlines to win a click.
Updates
Developing stories are updated as new information is confirmed. When an update changes a material fact, the change is handled under our Corrections Policy.
