Bruins Beat Kings 4-1 for Fifth Straight Win, California Sweep
The Boston Bruins kept rolling on Saturday night, shaking off an early deficit and a back-to-back to beat the Los Angeles Kings 4-1 at Crypto.com Arena. The win extends Boston's streak to five games and completes a sweep of the California portion of their road trip.
The Bruins (7-2) trailed for most of the opening period after Alex Laferriere scored just 31 seconds in, set up by Adrian Kempe, per the Kings' NHL.com recap. But Boston found its footing in the second, outshooting Los Angeles 12-7 in the period and getting the equalizer at 2:43 when David Pastrnak pounced on a loose puck, won a footrace through the neutral zone, and snapped a wrist shot past Anton Forsberg.
The goal was Pastrnak's fourth of the season and his ninth point in five games, extending his point streak to five. According to NHL.com, it was also the 289th even-strength goal of his career, tying him with Phil Esposito for the third-most in franchise history.
Marat Khusnutdinov Nets the Winner
The game turned with 6:24 left in the third. Morgan Geekie fired a shot off the rush that hit Forsberg up high and dropped loose in the crease, and Marat Khusnutdinov was there to push the rebound across the goal line for a 2-1 lead — his second goal of the season.
The Kings pulled Forsberg late, but Boston sealed it with a pair of empty-net goals: Elias Lindholm truck with 1:58 remaining and JJ Peterka finished it off with 18 seconds left. Jeremy Swayman made 25 saves on 26 shots (.962) to earn his sixth win of the season (6-1-0), while Forsberg stopped 24.
"They got one really early, but I feel like we're really confident in our team game, and there's plenty of time left," Matt Poitras told NHL.com. "Kind of sticking with that and getting rewarded with it. Feels good to get another win on this road trip."
Calm Confidence in the Room
Pastrnak credited the group's composure after another comeback win on the second night of a back-to-back.
"We are comfortable playing in those tight games. Obviously we are a little bit more mature than last year, even though we have more younger guys, but they've been playing really well. They came up big for us many times," Pastrnak told NHL.com. "It's just a certain calmness in the group."
The loss dropped the Kings to 0-4-2, their sixth straight defeat to open the season — Los Angeles' worst winless start since the 1984-85 campaign, per Reuters. Boston played without center Pavel Zacha, who remains day-to-day with an upper-body injury suffered Friday against Anaheim.
