Matt Turner Team of the Matchday Honor Caps Six-Save Shutout

Matt Turner has been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday presented by Audi for the third time this season, the New England Revolution announced on Monday, October 19. Turner earned the honor with a six-save shutout in New England's 1-0 win over Chicago Fire FC on Saturday night at Gillette Stadium, a result that kept the Revolution third in the Eastern Conference with four regular-season matches remaining.

How Did Matt Turner Earn Team of the Matchday?

Matt Turner made six saves against Chicago Fire FC to record his sixth clean sheet of the season in 30 starts for the New England Revolution. The shutout raised Turner's season save total to a career-high 120, according to the Revolution.

Chicago outshot New England 19-5 on Saturday night, so Turner's clean sheet was hard-earned. Matt Polster scored the only goal in the 26th minute, taking passes from Carles Gil and Peyton Miller. The goal was Polster's second of the season, Gil's 11th assist, and a career-high seventh assist for Miller, per the Associated Press.

A Team Effort in Front of Turner

The New England Revolution credited the shutout to a complete defensive effort, not just Matt Turner. Defender Josh Wynder earned his second consecutive selection to the Team of the Matchday bench, and the Revolution back line repeatedly blocked shots in front of a season-high crowd of over 34,000 at Gillette Stadium.

"Guys were putting their bodies on the line tonight, which I love to see," Turner said after the match, per the Revolution. "To get a clean sheet for the first time in, I think it was like 10 matches, that was huge for us. It's a good boost, especially coming down the stretch."

Turner also credited Ethan Kohler and Josh Wynder in the middle, and Tanner Beason after he came on, for dealing with Chicago striker Robert Lewandowski and an attack that also featured Maren Haile-Selassie and Philip Zinckernagel.

What Does This Mean for Revolution Playoff Seeding?

With Matt Turner in net, the New England Revolution own the second-best defensive record in the Eastern Conference, allowing just 41 goals in 30 matches. New England is 16-10-4 overall and 10-3-2 at home, and the club has already clinched a spot in the Audi 2026 MLS Cup Playoffs.

The New England Revolution playoff seeding push now turns to the final four regular-season matches. Every point matters as New England tries to finish as high as possible in the Eastern Conference before the playoffs begin.

When Do the Revolution Play Next?

The Revolution return to the road on Saturday night to face the Philadelphia Union at Subaru Park. The Revolution vs Union kickoff time is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Philadelphia is one of the Eastern Conference teams New England is measuring itself against down the stretch, so Turner's form in goal will again be central.

Chicago Fire FC, now 14-10-6, also clinched a playoff berth despite Saturday's loss, thanks to Orlando City's victory over D.C. United, per the Associated Press. Chicago next plays at Atlanta United on Saturday.
